this image, from one of my own copies of the book, shows the majority of the dust jacket as cut round and mounted on the fly leaf by a previous owner: Denis Mackail’s name has been trimmed from the foot of the panel

this alteration was probably made during the UK’s World War 2 paper drive, in order to preserve the image whilst ‘salvaging’ the rest of the jacket
