one periodical appearance and one anthologized story have been added :

  1. the newly added short story is of interest as it appeared while Mackail was an undergraduate, in a student-edited magazine
  2. the new anthology item is actually another reprint of an old favourite, Pym’s party

  1. More magazine appearances of stories have been added as a result of searches of The London magazine and The Windsor magazine for the period and a check of the few volumes of The grand magazine at the British Library which survived World War 2.
  2. Four more anthologies containing Mackail stories have been identified, one of which gives a rare clue to fiction published in a newspaper (although I haven’t been able to date that yet).
  3. Four newly-discovered ‘popular’ or ‘cheap’ editions have been added, all from Heinemann’s 3/6 library: Summertime, The fortunes of Hugo, The flower show and Tales from Greenery Street. Unfortunately, so far, a full description is only available for The flower show: even the year of publication of the other reprints is uncertain. If you can help with this, or any other lacunæ in the bibliography, please contact me with the missing information.
  4. Full details are now included of the 1968 reprint of London lovers (an image of the cover will have to await acquisition of a flatbed scanner).
  5. I have added page numbers to the contents’ lists of stories in Denis Mackail collections, thus matching the information, although not the format, of the data in the ‘anthologies’ section
  6. Details are now included of the reprint of the children’s story ‘The truth about the dilemma’ in The wonder book for children.
  7. There is now a short new section at the end of the page, listing known translations (all three of them!).
